Dr. Jennifer Steelesmith
Dr. Jennifer Steelesmith grew up in the southtowns of Buffalo, NY. Liking animals from a young age, she decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine after volunteering at several local veterinary clinics. Dr. Jenny graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. She enjoys getting to know clients and helping them to take the best possible care of their pets. Dr. Jenny and her husband have two children, Ethan and Abby, and a boxer mix named Bella.
Dr. Rona P. Shapiro and Dr. Alec Land
Dr. Rona Shapiro loves practicing veterinary medicine and feels blessed to be part of a professional community that cares for both animals and people. Dr. Shapiro was raised in Maryland. She graduated from the University of Maryland in 1979 with a B.S. Degree in Animal Sciences. After working as a herdsman on a dairy farm, and obtaining her Master of Science degree in Biochemistry, she attended and graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. Since that time, she and her husband, Dr. Alec Land, have co-owned the Groveport Canal Animal Hospital. Dr. Shapiro’s primary interest include internal medicine, ophthalmology, cardiology, and soft tissue surgery.
Dr. Alec Land grew up in the Cleveland area and spent his childhood in wooded areas finding and observing wildlife. He always wanted to be a veterinarian because of his deep interest and curiosity about animals. Dr. Land attended undergraduate school at The College of Wooster (B.A. in Chemistry), graduate school at Miami University (M.S. in Zoology), and veterinary school at The Ohio State University. He graduated with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. His primary interests currently include advanced orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries and his patients benefit from his surgical talent. He practices at the The Diley Hill Animal Emergency Center.
Doctors Shapiro and Land have two daughters. They enjoy spending time as a family, and serving the community through the Groveport Madison Lions Club. They have a sweet older lab named Sandy, four cats named Nelly, Cheeto, Joey, and Oscar, and two horses named Cowboy and Scarlet.
Dr. Amy Schnipke
Dr. Amy Schnipke grew up in the small town of New Washington, Ohio. In the 6th grade she had a science fair project on animal behavior; from there she knew she wanted to be a veterinarian when she grew up. Dr. Amy graduated from The Ohio State University in 1998 with a B.S. in horticulture and then in 2003 from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Her main interests include dermatology and internal medicine. Dr. Amy and her husband Mark’s family include two small young boys, Owen and Will, and Sully a Border Collie. Outside of work she enjoys spending time as a family and cooking or baking.
Hospital Manager/Registered Veterinary Technician
Christina loves working in the veterinary field and it shows in everything she does. She has worked for Dr. Land and Dr. Shapiro for 10 years and has been manager of the Groveport office for 7 years. Christina earned her Bachelor Degree in Biology from the Ohio State University in 2002. She then went on to further her education and graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Columbus State Community College in September 2010. Christina has adopted 2 dogs, Ella a feisty Shiba Inu mix, and Teacup a sweet older Bichon. She also has a wonderful cat, Chess.
Registered Veterinary Technician and Certified Canine Massage Therapist
Nikki received her veterinary technician degree in 2008 from Morehead State University and has worked at the hospital since September of ’09. Nikki owns a Mastiff named Mathias and a cat named Sonya. In her free time she enjoys reading, drawing, painting, and photography. Nikki is also a certified Canine Sports Massage Therapist.

Becky Lowe is a recent graduate from The Vet Tech Institute at Bradford School. She grew up in the small town of Cambridge, Ohio. Becky is the proud parent of 2 beautiful dogs (Shelby and Saleen), 5 ornery cats (Luna, Angel, Achilles, Jigsaw and Ava), and 2 gorgeous step daughters. In her free time, you can find her writing music on her acoustic guitar and singing her heart out. She also enjoys crafts and animal photography. Her favorite past time is lounging around cuddling with her many critters.
Everyone loves Sheryl’s friendly and caring personality! Sheryl has worked for Dr. Land and Dr. Shapiro for 20 years and has developed many deep friendships with our clients through the years. She has been both a veterinary assistant and kennel manager and has loved her job since day one! Sheryl currently has four cats: Vinny, Joey, Chewy and Slick. She enjoys horseback riding, watching bull riding and rodeo, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Registered Veterinary Technician
Lauryn received her veterinary technician degree in 2013 from Columbus State. She has always wanted to work with animals and enjoys helping each and every one of them. In her free time, Lauryn enjoys baking for both people and furry 4 legged friends, interior decorating and dancing. She has an adopted boxer-mix, named Presley.
OSU Veterinary Student
Rebecca is Dr. Land and Dr. Shapiro’s oldest daughter. She loves animals and feels an overwhelming urge to help pets and their owners. Rebecca graduated from the University of Dayton where she studied Pre-Veterinary Medicine. She is studying Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University. She owns a wonderful older Quarter Horse named Scarlet O’Cara. Rebecca enjoys both small and large animal veterinary medicine and loves learning.
Blanche and Willis
Blanche, our groomer, likes working with Willis at Groveport Canal Animal Hospital. She says they have a lot of fun working together!
Blanche likes to read, work in her flower and vegetable gardens, go out to dinner every week with friends, and groom dogs (of course!)
Willis likes to golf, play Texas Holdem, garden, and go to gun shows and flea markets.
They really enjoy working together at Groveport, and both say that time flies when they are grooming as a team
